Problemas traductológicos en textos de periodismo científico
Introducción
El Periodismo Científico se dedica a la creación de una clase de
textos que comparte características con las dos disciplinas que están
reflejadas en su nombre: las ciencias y el periodismo. Las ciencias
proporcionan el campo temático sobre el que versan los textos; el
periodismo aporta el enfoque que se adopta hacia las ciencias, pues el
objeto del periodismo consiste en presentar los acontecimientos que se
producen en el mundo desde una perspectiva humana y social y evaluarlos
en términos de los beneficios e inconvenientes que tienen para la vida de
las personas que vivimos en la Tierra.
Esta combinación resulta en textos de carácter híbrido que plantean
unos problemas de traducción específicos, puesto que en ellos se alternan
actos de habla declarativos y evaluativos y se emplea un lenguaje que
combina terminología especializada con elementos de registro familiar y, en
ocasiones, hasta coloquial.
Para mostrar dichos problemas de traducción, hemos extraído
ejemplos de un texto alemán de Periodismo Científico, que reúne todas
estas características. Estos ejemplos se describirán y comentarán en el
apartado 4.
1. Definición de la clase de texto
En el ámbito de los textos científicos debe distinguirse entre los que
están dirigidos a un público especializado y aquellos que están orientados a
los legos en la materia en cuestión. Huelga decir que esta clasificación
representa los polos extremos de un continuo.
Ahora bien, en el área de los textos escritos para un público no
especializado, puede diferenciarse, siguiendo la clasificación de Elías
(2008:16), entre textos divulgativos y textos periodísticos. La divulgación de
investigaciones científicas es una labor realizada por las entidades
responsables de dichas investigaciones y busca beneficiar, por lo tanto, a
las instituciones implicadas. El Periodismo Científico, en cambio, aunque en
ocasiones también se dedique a divulgar avances científicos, normalmente
evalúa el impacto que tienen dichos avances sobre la sociedad, teniendo en
cuenta aspectos tales como la inversión de fondos públicos, las
implicaciones éticas y las mejoras que pueden suponer dichos avances en
la vida humana. (cf. Elías 2008:16-17).
