Abstract

The study of the historic town constitutes an international dilemma of great relevance. This research performs a brief analysis about the remarkable legal character of the concept that defines it and its practical implications, from both the research and the conservationist point of view. It also discusses how urban history and archaeology have the potential to reformulate and improve the notion of historical city, starting from topology and diachrony as central arguments. Finally, the research revolves around operable changes within the archaeology and its links with the historical city, as well as the most viable ways to achieve healthier practices.
