Abstract

The metallurgical process requires to start from the purest metal extracts, being necessary the use of abundant water in order to separate the ore of the bargain by means of flotation. The Romans made use of hydraulic sieves in the South of Hispania. Considering the crucial importance of the liquid element in every phase of the metallurgical process, and the lack of this resource in a climatic area, were precipitations are irregular, the substructure of storing water became essential. It is surprising the building method and the effectiveness of the Roman mining cisterns, followers of the Greeks ones used in Laurión.
