Abstract

This article presents an interdisciplinary research of the mosaic from the Maritime Baths of Baelo Claudia, active from the 2nd up to the 5th century A.D, combining the archaeological context –secondary context dated to the 6th century A.D.-, its iconographic analysis (marine motifs), the archaeometric characterization of tesserae and the results of the restoration of mosaic fragments found in a small cold bath). This is an exceptional mosaic found in the context of the conventus Gaditanus.
