Abstract

One of the more widely used concepts in the archaeological vocabulary is the word villa. However, when we look at its use in the roman literature, we see major differences: in epigraphy its not used, and in literature it as a very wide scope, and sometimes conflicting. As a result, in the archaeological investigation the word villa is used to nominate a tremendous variety of archaeological sites. In this contribution we intend to see the roman concept and use in literary references throughout the centuries.
