Abstract

The Risco de las Cuevas is located in the locality of Perales de Tajuña, in the surroundings of Madrid. It is a question of one scarp abrupt on the right straight of the river Tajuña, in which deposits have opened cockpits themselves from ends of the Neolithic one up to recent epochs. It constitutes, inside the surrounding space, the most compact and spectacular formation of human troglodytic occupation, though along the basin of the Tagus. It does not represent an exception but a line of continuity that, in major measure, we can document in Tajuña tributary basin. The set formed by the cockpits of the Risco de las Cuevas has payed attention from early epochs, indicating its prehistoric filiation, as well as relating this place with famous “sertorian anecdote”.
