Abstract

The "New Archaeology" developed methodological standards for archaeological research centered on funerary remains. New methodological tools have been achieved on the last years, mostly centered on anthropological and chemical results applied to buried bones. Theory has also been renewes by several post-processual approaches that give more importance to the archaeologist's perspective and to several previously underestimated gropups as women and children. The practice of funerary archaeology is now challenged by ethnic and religious beliefs that claim respect for their communities, and some cases are incompatible with legislation of the "western" world.
