“We Will Make Peace With You”: The Christians of Najrān in Muqātil’s Tafsīr

Abstract

Here I deal with a version of the meeting between Muḥammad and the Christians from Najrān in the Qur’ānic commentary of Muqātil ibn Sulaymān, containing a number of unique features. The focus slowly shifts from the Christian confession of the divinity of Jesus to the authority of the prophet of Islam.
