Curriculum vitae of cathedral chapter’s members in XVIth century: the case of THE cathedral chapter of Santiago de Compostela

Abstract

From a statistical and prosopographical approach, by using numerous documentary sources and bibliographies, this article is an exhaustive study of the professional career of the cathedral chapter of Santiago de Compostela’s members in the sixteenth century, analyzing the variables that determine their ecclesiastical and civil life along three periods (before, during and after his chapter life in Compostela) and taking into account their chapteral typology. In addition, it’s been studied the degree of compliance with canon, especially the Council of Trent, in regard to canons’ clergy orders after becoming a member of the chapter.
