Abstract

The papers collected in this dossier do not focus particularly on the Inquisition, nor they are a study on the topic of the social group known as conversos. They are not even works devoted to the study of the nobility itself as a privileged group. It would be much more precise to summarize that they all raise particular analysis on the junction of this three wider and more classical topics. Focussed on two main geographical areas –three works on the Lower Andalusia and two on the city of Pastrana–, we do not seek to offer an exhaustive panorama of such a rich and complex topic. However, the most relevant and meaningful subjects are raised here: politics, economy, upward social mobility, jurisdictional quarrel, persecution and discrimination are present in all five works composing this dossier. With this, we seek to open new ground for further research and to be able to promote discussion and controversy on those crucial topics.
