Abstract

Juan Fajardo de Tenza was an accomplished seventeenth-century sailor. His fame and prestige earned him a title in Castile, Marquis of Espinardo, establishing a hugely important noble dynastic branch in the reign of Murcia. This study develops the interesting biography of this sailor and follows his lineage from his origins (bastard or illegitimate line of the marquises of los Vélez) until its own independent development. Nevertheless, the lack of barony would force their descendants to live in Seville and Extremadura, consolidating the lineage in the 18th century, when this very important noble peerage clan came back to Murcia.
