FROM THE STIGMA TO THE HABIT: ASCENT AND TRANSFORMATION IN MODERN CÓRDOBA - THE FERNÁNDEZ TEJEIRO FAMILY OF CABRA

Abstract

In recent years, significant progress has been made in overcoming the stereotypes that have surrounded this field of study, fortunately, thanks to the effort and dedication of some historians. Today, we have a more precise understanding of a seemingly static society, where even the less privileged sectors, such as the conversos, managed to ascend to elevated positions that theoretically should have been inaccessible to them. This work chooses to examine the paradigmatic case of a family from Cabra of questionable origin, the Fernández Tejeiro, who, in just over a century, went from being notorious conversos to holding prominent roles in Spanish nobility.
