Abstract

This paper examines various aspects related to the lineage and descendants of the marriage between Don Manuel José Braulio Navarro (San Juan, 1818 - Tucumán, 1877) and Doña Gregoria Eladia Exaltación de la Cruz Frías (Tucumán, circa 1839 - Tucumán, 1901), in order to clarify the motives that would have led this Cuyan muleteer not only to move to Tucumán, but also to settle there. In addition, the mechanisms and strategies of social reproduction of the family group. To this end, information was gathered from sacramental and judicial records –both from San Juan and Tucumán–, the first two Argentine national censuses (1869 and 1895), peace court registers and edited documents, such as the Archivo del Brigadier General José Nazario Benavides (2007).
