One of them is the repertoire, which has been traced in this article in order to know the works and exercises traditionally used for piano didactics from Bach to the present, which allows us to understand how this type of instrumental teaching has been proposed; the evolution it has undergone over time; what repertoire has remained or has been discarded; what methods were used and continue today, and determine the role the Conservatoire has played in this process as the main institution of musical education. There is also space in this article to discuss some related questions about musical improvement. The article ends with a comparative study of three official documents, separated by a hundred years apart, on the repertoire to be studied by piano students.
