MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS IN VIOLINISTS. PREVENTION AND PREVALENCE OF PRMD IN VIOLINISTS FROM CÓRDOBA.
Main Article Content
Abstract
Violinists face higher risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders due to music practice (PRMD) compared to other musicians, with prevalence rates ranging between 80%. Despite these risks, Spanish teaching institutions currently lack standardized strategies to prevent playing-related injuries. To aid the development of preventive strategies, this study reviews the existing literature and conducts cross-sectional prevalence study of PRMD with purposive sampling in violinists from Cordoba (southern Spain), which identifies the most common musculoskeletal injuries and pathologies. The cross-sectional prevalence study of PRMD was carried out via anonymous surveys to a population of 14 Cordobese violinists. The survey results were found extrapolable to other collectives found in the literature. This study therefore stresses the need for developing health programs for violists of music conservatories in Spain.
