Abstract

The palynologic study of the sediments at the Madinat al-Zahra archaeological site intend to expand data regarding the species planted in the original gardens and surroundings, as well as the evolution of the area’s flora since periods prior to the construction of the city and up to the present day. Samples were extracted from the site by boring. A physical-chemical treatment was then applied to the samples in order to isolate the pollen grains they contained. Once the pollen grains were counted and identified, pollen diagrams were created from this data, which have permitted the interpretation of the botanic events that took place in the area.
