Abstract

We have carried out a study on the Flora of Guadalquivir high valley (Jaén) as a result of a herborization campaign during the years 1992-1996. The study area is a large territory with very varied geologic and pedologic substrata, where a heterogeneous floristic composition developes under such different ecological conditions. One of the most remarkable facts in this territory is the strong anthropic influence, since the soils that take place in the area have good agricultural qualities; most of the territory is actually being occupied by olive-tree crops, followed by cereal and cotton crops. Because of the great human pressure and its scarce natural and landscape value, this zone has not been interesting under a scientific point of view; nevertheless, as a result of this and other recent studies, we have found several interesting plant species: 22 first records and 7 second records for the province of Jaén, as well as 2 new records for eastern Andalusia. Together with the floristic catalogue, we contribute with a numeric and graphic analysis of the Flora, in order to make a better interpretation of this work.
