THE TRADITIONAL NAMES OF PLANTS: METHOD AND OBJECTIVE IN ETHNOBOTANY

Abstract

Research on traditional phytonymes is an example of the interdisciplinary nature of the ethnobotanical work. It can provide data of interest in different fields. An analysis of the study of traditional names of plants is presented in this paper, with special emphasis on some methodological aspects far apart from the scope of the natural sciencies (source of most of the ethnobotanical researchers). Bibliographical sources, data about the denominations detected and reliable transcription systems are some of the main subjects studied.
