Abstract

The city of Córdoba went through a slow and incomplete process of industrialisation; as the twentieth century approached, the people of Córdoba were immersed in an economic panorama still heavily dependent on the agricultural tradition. For that reason, the advent in 1917 of the Sociedad Española de Construcciones Electromecánicas S.A. was undoubtedly a landmark in the recent history of Córdoba. The size of this manufacturing complex, and its impact on local economy, local society and city planning, make it a key element in understanding the process of industrialisation in Córdoba.
