Monarquismo vizcaíno e Historia Antigua en la reacción contra el nacionalismo vasco en Vizcaya (1918-1923): Gregorio de Balparda y Luis de Salazar.
Main Article Content
Abstract
Following their electoral defeat against Basque nationalism in 1918, the monarchists of Biscay organised a response to regain lost power. This response unfolded not only at an electoral level, but also within the field of historiography. Examples of this can be seen in the works of Gregorio de Balparda and Luis de Salazar, who were both members of the Liga de Acción Monárquica's board. In a context of plural and diverse images of Antiquity, they published works in which they challenged the vision of the ancient past disseminated by Basque nationalism, following in the footsteps of its founder Sabino Arana. While both authors shared the same goal, they employed different formats and discursive strategies, offering unique perspectives on the history of Biscay that introduced new elements in relation to both Basque nationalism and the previous historiographical tradition.
