AI Policy
Insights on Bilingual Education provides clear guidelines as to responsible and ethical practices concerning the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in scholarly research and publication. Noncompliance to such guidelines may result in authors having their submissions automatically declined.
Guidelines for contributors
Insights on Bilingual Education does not accept submissions created wholly or partially by generative AI tools. The intellectual, ethical and legal responsibility for a text – including arguments, interpretations and source citation – is solely the author’s responsibility. Claiming as one’s own work ideas, arguments, text, examples, data or images created by AI tools without appropriate disclosure is a form of plagiarism and intellectual dishonesty. Should AI tools be deployed at a given stage of the research process, authors are required to acknowledge this use by clearly identifying the tool used and describing the nature of its contribution. Finally, authors are required to reference the original human source behind the ideas, examples and arguments suggested by AI.
Guidelines for editors and reviewers
The responsibility for safeguarding the intellectual property of authors and the confidentiality of manuscripts submitted to Insights on Bilingual Education rests entirely with editors and reviewers. Therefore, uploading manuscripts to AI tools or platforms other that IBE’s is strictly prohibited. Review reports on submissions must be the original work of editors and reviewers alone. Using AI to judge the quality and robustness of a manuscript or to draft a review report is incompatible with the ethical standards of IBE. As a journal dedicated to bilingual education, IBE values intellectual honesty and ethical integrity.
