Abstract

The advances of the Christian kingdoms in the war against Islam, their sharing of the same conditions of life and danger, the defence and protection of the borderline areas of the frontier, had as a result the existence of a great similarity in their institutional organization and social relations. In this way, a consideration of those common features is the best basis for the study of the fueros or cartas de población granted to the settlers of the new lands conquered from the Moors.
