Abstract

The following research paper reflects the types of barriers experienced by interpreting students during peer assessment and feedback in an exercise of simultaneous interpretation. In order to achieve this, a qualitative case study method was carried out through the use of three data collection instruments: (1) a socio-demographic survey; (2) a validated evaluation sheet for interpreting exercises (adapted) by García-Beyaert (2020); and (3) a semi-structured interview. Through a qualitative content analysis and a coding process (from Grounded theory), it was found that there are certain factors that are involved or hinder the peer feedback process. Specifically, in this research, the barriers identified are technical-type and sociocultural-type, reflected as follows: personal relationship, friendship, student’s attitude, context, profession, halo effect, assessment, working memory, distraction, peer characteristics and decision-making.
