Abstract
This essay tries to approach the artistic production of Maruja Mallo from the analysis of her Verbenas (1927-1928). Through these four paintings, her visual language or the themes of her painting as well as her connection to the intelligentsia or her position on the political and social context of the time can be traced. Similarly, it seeks to rescue the figure of this member of the Generation of ‘27 who -in spite of being one of the key personas of the Spanish avant-garde- has been diluted by the subsequent historiography given her condition as a female artist.
