Monograph presentation

Following the International Meeting Sustainability, language and education colloquium tables SDGs and Agenda 2030, on 16 April 2024, on sustainability, language and education, the purpose of this monographic issue is to disseminate some of the issues that were presented at this international forum whose main objective was to disseminate research and ongoing projects from different perspectives and areas, with a common goal, to meet some of the Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations since 2015.

From different foreign universities, we heard about the SDGs in university educational environments. Actions carried out by teachers and students, in the classroom but also on campus, aim to raise awareness of sustainability. The sustainable dimension of higher education, mentoring programmes and training of trainers hide the need to foster flexible learning pathways for lifelong learning to ensure that the knowledge generated is fed back into society. However, the teaching of languages, first or additional languages, as also seen, is fundamental to sharing cultures and understanding different idiosyncrasies in order to foster tolerance. This, of course, was linked to a round table discussion on migration, inclusion and socio-linguistic integration, to meet the 4th SDG, not forgetting adult programmes, which UNESCO presents as a "transformative agenda", with a Lifelong Learning perspective.

In this proposal of promoting the learning of content from the perspective of sustainability, the comic was discussed as a teaching tool based on creativity and artistic expression that allows any of the seventeen SDGs to be addressed.

The debate and presentation forum, as was logical, was approached from the point of view of learning and knowledge technologies, with special attention to the digital gaps for the fulfilment of the 2030 Agenda, because in the 21st century all of the above does not make sense without new technologies. In fact, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations specialised agency, stresses the importance of information and communication technologies (ICT) to activate the fulfilment of the seventeen goals, to improve the quality of life, progress and growth, while protecting the environment.

Concluding, we heard about specific projects, Speak4Nature, TRADILEX-TRADILAB and TRADAV, PROADMIN, which brought attendees closer to the field of translation and the gender approach in relation to sustainability from different perspectives.

Everything we have seen during this conference has encouraged us to share all the knowledge generated through the publication of a monograph in the Alfinge magazine, which promotes knowledge equity due to its open format, another of the topics that was discussed in a presentation at the meeting organised in April.

RESEARCH TOPICS

For the monograph on the International Meeting Sustainability, language and education colloquium tables SDGs and Agenda 2030, we welcome all contributions that contribute to improving the reception and monitoring of the topics discussed around sustainability that have been commented on. A selection of the most interesting proposals will be made

The main thematic axes of the issue are listed below: Innovation, Didactics and Education for Sustainability.

  • The SDGs in university educational environments. Teaching and student actions. Sustainability in the training of teachers, adult learners and tutorial programmes.
  • Sustainability, young immigrants and adult programmes.
  • Learning technologies: knowledge and digital divides. Agenda 2030.
  • SDGs, additional and first language learning for the 2030 Agenda. Translation and translators: approach in relation to the SDGs.
  • The SDGs in children's literature and comics.
  • Knowledge equity and open materials in UNESCO's mandate.
