Abstract

Chapters IX and X of the second installment are a sample of the more than possible connection of the Cervantine text with the works of Seneca, Homer, Ovid, Virgil Pliny the Elder and Persio. Besides, they constitute the plot base of the subsequent framework of the story and an important key to be able to elucidate how Cervantes exhibits the singularity of his characters in front of the grotesque stereotypes that already circulated in his time among the popular masses, and that, made literature, led to the degraded caricature of Avellaneda's apocryphal Quixote
