Abstract

The translations of Plotinus and Proclus' texts made by the Arabs, which were considered pseudo-aristotelian (as is shown in the title of the most important, the Theology of Aristotle -in fact, a summary of some books of the Enneads), twisted the sense of the ontology of Classical Greece, based on the Doctrine of Being (and on the functions of the verb 'to be') and turned it into a Metaphysics of Existence, based on the monotheistic dogma of the Creation. The aim of this article is to show how this can be done basically thanks to the previous terminological thesaurus of Arabic, which allows us to distinguish between the existencial and predicative functions as well as between the essence and the existence, in such a way that proved impossible in the realm of an Ontology of Being.
