Abstract

I herc pul forward tlie hypotliesis tliat the anomalous form ¿ppayeís- (scemingly a form of participle, hardly admissible from a morphological standpoint), as passed dovvn by Marcus Aurelius' Mss {Medit. V1.20,1) and Heliodore (Aeth. 1,12,2), ¡s a copist’s error instead of the adverb éppu7dujs-. This adveró, which is a synonym of Taxéios {stiddenly) according to Hesycliius. seems to closeiy fit the sense in both sentenees.
