Scientific dissemination of mathematics education: an analysis of the journal MES

Abstract

The study conducted in the journal Mathematics, Education and Society focused on analysing the production and thematic distribution of articles published since its inception in 2018 through 2023. The main objective was to conduct a bibliometric and thematic analysis to identify the major trends and patterns in mathematics education, using mixed analysis techniques for documentary and descriptive research. Data on authorship, institutional affiliation, and topics covered were collected and standardized, utilizing network analysis software to visualize collaborations. The results indicated a predominance of themes related to pedagogy and errors in mathematics education, as well as a notable concentration of national collaborations. The conclusions highlighted the need to diversify international contributions and expand collaboration networks, suggesting that although the journal has a strong focus on pedagogical advancement, it could benefit from a greater inclusion of international studies.
