Abstract

Veterinary students are rarely able to determine the scientific quality of different types of publications or reviews. In this didactic experience, we aim to teach veterinary students about scientific publications, the scientific methodology to improve their laboratory knowledge and innovative spirit. We divide the participants in groups and they design and complete laboratory experiments related to veterinary clinical pathology. Afterwards, each group has to write a scientific paper and create a poster with their results. The scientific paper was published in a journal after a peer-review process (also done by the students), while the poster was presented in a congress-like meeting with other students. Considering the participants’ evaluation and the overall success of the experience, we consider this type of activities are ideal for learning the quality differences occurring in scientific literature.
