Abstract

The objective of this study was to create a Spanish-English glossary of terminology used in scientific research, Lima, 2020.  A descriptive qualitative approach based on a case study was carried out in this applied research. Also, the document analysis technique was used for corpus extraction and for completion of the glossary fields. Regarding the methodology of terminology, the method for terminology work of Cabré (1999) was followed to create the bilingual glossary. The comparable corpus was made from 48 undergraduate theses in Spanish and 69 documenting resources in English. The data collection instrument employed was the bilingual terminology record. As a result of this study, a Spanish-English glossary of terminology used in scientific research was created, consisting of 70 specialized terms in Spanish language and with the following fields: equivalents in English, grammatical category, contexts, definitions and denominative variations in both working languages, with its respective sources for each field in the bilingual glossary. The findings also indicated that 244 documenting sources were consulted to complete all the fields of the bilingual glossary. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the extraction of source terms, the identification of equivalents, the compilation of definitions, the identification of the grammatical category, sources, contexts and denominative variations in both working languages facilitate the creation of a bilingual glossary of terminology.
