La historia del constitucionalismo español va del Estatuto de Bayona,
firmado por José Bonaparte en 1808, a la vigente Constitución, sancionada
por el Rey el 27 de diciembre de 1978. Entremedias hubo una
docena de Constituciones, si consideramos como tales el Estatuto
Real de 1834; la de la Primera República -1873-, que no pasó de ser
un proyecto federal, defendido por aquellos patricios que, como
Castelar, pronunciaban discursos fosforescentes con el pulgar introducido
en la sisa del chaleco; la Asamblea Consultiva del dictador
Primo de Rivera en 1927; y las Leyes Fundamentales del franquismo,
que abarca 40 años de una férrea dictadura ajena a la soberanía popular,
matriz de la democracia genuina
