En este artículo se trata el origen y evolución de la patria potestad hasta llegar a nuestros días. Se analiza el sentido de este concepto en la educación de Grecia, Esparta y Roma y la responsabilidad que en cada uno tenía el Estado y el padre de familia. Finalmente se trata la patria potestad en el derecho civil español, su contenido y representación.
