La personalidad de Pablo de Olavide tiene distitnas vertientes y muchos ámbitos de acción en las diferentes etapas de su vida: americana, española, exilio en Francia y retorno a España, hasta su muerte en 1803. No obstante, profundizaremos especialmente en un aspecto muy concreto y determinante en su azarosa existencia: la fundación de las Nuevas Poblaciones de las que fue Superintendente y el proceso inquisitorial que le condenó, entendiendo que su condena tenía un carácter ejemplarizante para la minoría ilustrada que le apoyaba
