LEGAL AND HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF THE LUSO-BRAZILIAN FAMILY

The article presents a legal-historical overview of the institution of the Family in Brazil. Without neglecting socio political aspects, it covers the main lines of the historical process that unfolded from de 16th century to the presente day. The legal sources were privileged in the observation of the multi-secular institution of the Family. The investigation allows us to perceive the deep penetration of values in the Family at the beginning of Brazilian History. The consonance between temporal and spiritual powers is clear throughout the colonial period. The historical processo f secularization of society i salso unveiled from the 20th century onwards.
