Abstract

This study situates the lineage of Antón de Montoro, raises some relevant questions about his origins and establishes his family relationship with the most important of his descendants, his great-granddaughter the "Lozana Andaluza", the protagonist of the famous play by Francisco Delicado. Secondly, this research situates Montoro in the social and political coordinates of his time. With regard to the former, it establishes his point of view on the persecution of the Jews in Castile and Cordoba; and with regard to the latter, it situates him politically in the struggle between the two most powerful families of Cordoba at the time, that of the Count of Aguilar and that of the Count of Cabra, about whom he repeatedly speaks in his compositions. Finally, he analyses his poem dedicated to Rodrigo Cota as an example.
