Nowadays we are quite used to the paradigm shift which the European Space of Higher
Education implied: The student is located at the core of the educative process, at the same
time than competencies, instead of just knowledge, must be acquired. However, we are
facing the first promotions that are putting forward their undergraduate thesis, projects that
must constitute the best opportunity to validate the competencies acquired by the students. The double novelty of the undergraduate thesis, its mandatory presence at the bachelor
degrees in law and its aim to evaluate competencies, put us in a scenario where we must
identify which are the competencies that should be evaluated through the undergraduate
thesis. Nor is space for all the competencies, neither can be all the competencies developed
in the same intensity. The kind of the undergraduate thesis, its topic and even the students’
profile and interests will determine the identification of competencies.
