Abstract

“Migrations and Human Rights” is a development cooperation project
organized between the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Cheikh Anta
Diop University in Dakar whose purpose is to raise awareness with the opportunities
and challenges arising from the migratory flows between West Africa and Europe and
the promotion of intercultural dialogue on human rights. This paper offers an analysis
of the different activities that toke place in the framework of this project in Dakar and
in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria between October 2009 and December 2010. Once
identified the achievements and the weaknesses of this project, some ideas are
presented in order to launch a second edition that includes a legal clinic for the
provision of legal assistance to migrants.
