Abstract

The objective of this article is identifying the evolution patterns of the use and appropriation of digital platforms among young students from the southern area of Tamaulipas, Mexico. The methodology is quantitative, based on a descriptive non-experimental design. A questionnaire was applied that obtained the participation of 1,222 high school and college students, from a representative sample of the municipalities of Tampico, Ciudad Madero and Altamira. Through this questionnaire, a Principal Component Analysis was prepared that yielded five representative profiles of internet browsing: Information Search, academic, entertainment, communicative-playful and socializing. When crossing them by the age of the participants, it was obtained that the profiles change according to the age to cohort corresponding to the high school or college, resulting in the collaborative, entertainment and playful communication profile standing out during high school, but during the college is a profile information seeker and socializer. The results allow us to identify the evolution of the browsing profile of students from various digital platforms, as well as to make visible the incidence of the digital gap that age and sex still imprint on digital practices.
