Abstract

The development of the sense of agency was studied in prospective statistics teachers when participating in a course designed from a socio-critical perspective. The participants were ten prospective teachers enrolled in a seminar on Methods for Teaching Statistics within a Mathematical Education professional program at a public university located in the north western of Colombia. The sources of information were the discussions of the seminar participants while working on the statistical investigations and narrative writings of the prospective teachers. The results reveal that the sense of agency was evident in the participants by assuming statistics as a non-neutral science, by recognizing themselves as protagonists of history, and by undertaking transformative actions.
