Radio UAPA Transforming Online Academic Development in Higher Education in the Dominican Republic
Main Article Content
Abstract
This experience explored the perception and use of Radio UAPA as a tool for online academic development at the Universidad Abierta para Adultos. Using a mixed-methods design, 153 teachers and students were surveyed, achieving a response rate of 39% (59 responses). Structured questionnaires validated with 0.986 with the Cronbach's Alpha were used to collect mixed data. Quantitative results revealed a positive attitude towards Radio UAPA, with 46% of respondents aware of its existence and 47% considering it useful for academic development. Additionally, 41% positively rated the quality of the programs, and 44% highlighted its accessibility. Qualitative interviews supported these findings, showing that favorable perceptions were influenced by previous satisfactory experiences and the view of the radio as a viable educational resource. However, areas for improvement were identified, such as the need to diversify programming to better meet the needs of all students. The integration of quantitative and qualitative data validated most positive results but also revealed that a minority of students were not fully convinced of Radio UAPA's utility.
