Abstract

The application of the principles of Contrastive Linguistics to Translation Studies results in the use of the contrastive analysis as a step prior to the translation process itself. While Contrastive Linguistics focuses on the analysis of interlinguistic similarities and differences, in Translation Studies such a linguistic-contrastive analysis also includes translation-based parameters. Therefore, this contribution defends the application of a translation-based contrastive analysis (“CONTRA”). This kind of analysis culminates in an assessment process, so that the whole analysis turns into a three-part scheme: contrastive, translation-based and evaluative (“CONTRA-EVA”). In order to exemplify this three-part analysis, in this contribution a tourist text has been selected due to the functional heterogeneity of this text typology (informative text+advertising text).
