Abstract

This article focuses on the technique of the sculptor Cristobal Ramos (1725-99) who worked in Seville. The analysis covers fundamentally his work in terracotta and ‘papier mache’. Thanks to organoleptic testing (scientific analysis by CAT scan or radiography) it has become possible to analyze his works and the way they were produced. This paper also studies the materials he used and looks at him as a restorer. Finally, it will be examined the main factors affecting the semi-industrial production of non-wood sculptures of this type within the workshop system in operation during this period.
