Abstract

The present work presents the study of the artistic reforms makes during the 18th century in the temple of the ancient and popular Capuchin convent of Málaga. In these reforms the famous preacher of the order fray Diego José de Cádiz performed a role capital as a mentor of themes, legends and iconographies, who always showed an enormous sensitivity towards this type of initiatives. Recent restorations of the interior of the church allow us to analyze part of its primitive epidermal decoration, especially wall paintings and easel paintings ascribed to some of the altarpieces. In addition, it will also correct misinterpretation and misidentification of characters represented, which had been dragging themselves for a long time.
