The altarpiece of San Cristobal Martir of the Cathedral of Orihuela

Abstract
The recovery of the altarpiece of San Cristobal Martir, preserved in the ante-sacristy of the Cathedral of Orihuela, and its historical-artistic and patrimonial study, has allowed to know in detail its origin and functionality in the cathedral temple, as well as the different historical modifications that it has suffered. The work is made up of a canvas dating from the 17th century, representing San Cristóbal kneeling, and at his feet the priest Cristóbal Ripoll, beneficiary of the Orihuela Cathedral and royal chaplain. The painting is adorned with Rococo decoration on the sides, and has a noble coat of arms on its crown, which belongs to the Timor family. This family had its grave since 1760, in the altar where the canvas was located. In the lower part, in the 18th century, the predella of an old altarpiece with the dedications of saints and martyrs linked to the religious identity of the Crown of Aragon was added.
