Abstract
This article presents an analysis of the validity of the label Contemporary Art according to its capacity to encompass the artistic creations of a new historical period known as Contemporaneity. The study takes as its starting point Giorgio Agamben's influential questioning of the meaning of being Contemporary and examines some of the main critical debates that were carried out by artists and academics interested in the re-signification of the artistic category as a result of this approach. The article concludes with the presentation of a series of lines of research that are capable of providing concrete data on the ecosystem of current artistic creation and that are favouring the study of artistic creation in the Contemporary, based on the application of digital tools and methodologies related to Cultural Analytics.
