Don´t be a pig: Animal´s images by Luis Palao Ortubia (1863-1930)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The images of editorial productions aimed at children play a decisive role in the construction of visual culture. Illustrators pay attention to many resources that result from the combination of their artistic learning and their adaptation to the professional environment in which they work. The role as illustrator of Luis Palao Ortubia (Zaragoza, 1863- Madrid, 1930), despite having been a determining factor in the publishing production of children's and young people's books in the Spanish language in the first third of the 20th century, is little known and little appreciated. His contribution to the graphic world, beyond the established canons of innovation and tradition, achieved success among the younger public, and this article analyzes some of his key aspects in the subgenre of the representation of humanized animals.
