The woman in the Romero de Torres family environment

Abstract

The influence of Romero de Torres Family in Cordoba´s cultural life it´s something that still remains present, but it was between 1862, when Rafael Romero Barros was appointed Painting Museum´s Curator and his granddaughter Maria Romero de Torres Pellicer death in 1991, that this infuence was at its height. Here we analyse the Family women and their environment by reviewing their activities, friendly relationships with women at Cordoba and Madrid and their representation in drawings, posters and paintings made by Romero Barros and his sons Rafael, Enrique and Julio. Among all of these women Angelita Romero de Torres must be highlighted as a woman fully devoted to her family and the study of music and the archaeological collection amassed by her father and brothers that she later inherited in 1935.
