Abstract

Under the influence of the medieval exemplum and more specifically of De claris mulieribus by Boccaccio, the didactic compositions devoted to the instruction of women are actual repertoires or catalogues of famous women originated both in the Sacred Writings and in Greek and Latin mitographies, and similarly in medieval chronicles. Such extolling lists, present in numerous didactic works for women, bear witness to a solid inteliectual formation of the Renaissance women writers.
