Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of primary school teachers on the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a strategy to reduce educational lag and school dropout in the municipality of Mao, Dominican Republic. A quantitative, non-experimental, and correlational approach was applied, using a validated questionnaire administered to 307 teachers through simple random sampling. Statistical analysis—including Student's t-test, ANOVA, and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)— revealed three key factors: pedagogical application of ICT for addressing diversity, perception of ICT's inclusive potential, and structural conditions for ICT integration. Results indicate a high teacher appreciation for inclusive use of ICT, with mean scores above 4.3 in most items. Statistically significant differences were found based on gender, academic specialization, and educational level. The study concludes that ICT can serve as a protective factor against school dropouts when its integration is supported by continuous training, adequate infrastructure, and institutional leadership.
